CUSTOM FINNISH LIGHTING IN RITA AND AKI MANNINEN’S HOME

 

Rita Niemi-Manninen and Aki Manninen are Finnish wellness entrepreneurs, coaches and media personalities. Their home provided an inspiring setting for a lighting collaboration with QUU Design, bringing together bold architecture, personal colour choices and handcrafted Finnish design.

With an impressive seven-metre-high ceiling, the open living room called for lighting with enough scale and presence to become part of the architecture. The result is a series of distinctive QUU compositions designed around the proportions and atmosphere of the home.

 

Statement chandeliers for a high-ceiling living room

Two customised QUU chandeliers became the eye-catching focal points of Rita and Aki’s living room. The compositions were created in individual colour combinations and fitted with extra-long textile cables, allowing each pendant to be positioned at a carefully considered height.

The sculptural arrangement of wood and glass spheres draws the eye upwards and highlights the exceptional height of the room. At the same time, the lights add warmth, rhythm and personality to the open interior.

In a high-ceiling space, lighting does more than illuminate the room. A thoughtfully designed chandelier helps define the proportions of the interior and visually connects the different levels of the home.

 

ONE DESIGN LANGUAGE THROUGHOUT THE HOME

The QUU lighting continues upstairs, where three smaller compositions were installed along the upper-floor corridor. Repeated shapes, colours and materials create a natural connection with the statement chandeliers below.

In the bedroom, the atmosphere becomes softer. A QUU chandelier in warm brown and white tones complements the calm interior, while two walnut-toned QUU table lamps beside the bed add a gentle ambient glow.

Together, the chandeliers, pendant lights and table lamps create a cohesive lighting story that flows naturally from one space to another.

 

 

FINNISH CRAFTSMANSHIP AND NATURAL MATERIALS

Each QUU light is designed and handcrafted in Finland in collaboration with skilled local makers. PEFC-certified ash wood and recycled mouth-blown glass give the lights their distinctive combination of warmth, transparency and sculptural form.

In Rita and Aki’s home, these materials work across very different scales — from large statement chandeliers in the seven-metre-high living room to smaller, more intimate lighting in the bedroom and upstairs spaces.

 

LIGHTING DESIGNED AROUND THE SPACE

High ceilings, staircases and open-plan interiors often call for lighting that responds to the architecture rather than simply hanging from it.

QUU lights can be personalised through different sizes, colours, materials, compositions and cable lengths, allowing the lighting to become a natural part of the interior.
