About QUU Design

QUU Design is a Finnish lighting brand founded in 2018 by interior architect and designer Heli Mäkiranta. The brand creates customizable Finnish lights for homes, interior designers and architectural projects, bringing together timeless design, Finnish craftsmanship and carefully selected materials.

The story of QUU began with a client project where the right light simply could not be found. Rather than compromising, Heli was inspired to create one herself. Her vision was to design a light fixture that would feel at home in many different spaces and interiors while maintaining a strong focus on beauty, quality and thoughtful design.

The name QUU was born from the shape of the light. In Finnish, QUU is pronounced the same way as kuu, the word for moon. The name reflects the feeling behind the brand: soft light, northern skies and quiet beauty that brings a sense of calm into the home.

Customization is at the heart of QUU Design. We believe a light should be more than a beautiful object — it should feel like it was made for the space. QUU lights can be customized to suit different interiors, styles and needs, making them a refined choice for both private homes and larger design projects.

Made in Finland

QUU Design lights are made in Finland by skilled Finnish artisans using certified ash wood and recycled Iittala glass. Every detail is designed with longevity in mind — from the materials and craftsmanship to the timeless form of each piece.

International recognition

QUU Design has received international recognition for its design, sustainability and entrepreneurial story. Visa selected Heli Mäkiranta as one of the winners of the Visa She’s Next Nordic competition, where 12 promising businesses were chosen from more than 2,500 female entrepreneurs across the Nordics.

QUU Design has also received recognition from the Marie Claire Sustainability Awards 2023 in the Best Homes & Lifestyle Small Business category, as well as the Key Flag Symbol and Design from Finland marks, which recognize Finnish work and design.
