FINNISH LIGHTING IN THE HEART OF NATURE

Kivijärvi is located close to Salamajärvi National Park, surrounded by the peaceful landscapes of Central Finland. The unique natural setting inspired the creation of a resort where high-quality accommodation and untouched nature come together.

Nature played a central role throughout the design process. The aim was to create spaces where guests could experience the surrounding landscape, silence and sense of seclusion as naturally as possible. The resort includes three different types of accommodation: on the ground, above the water and high among the trees.

 

 

NATURE AS PART OF THE INTERIOR

Niliaitta is a contemporary interpretation of a traditional elevated storage building once used in northern Finland. A floor-to-ceiling glass wall opens the interior towards the surrounding forest, making the landscape an important part of the experience.

Inside, the atmosphere is calm and understated. Natural wood, wool and softly textured surfaces create warmth, while the neutral colour palette allows the surrounding nature to remain the main focus.

 

QUU LIGHTING FOR NILIAITTA

QUU Design lighting was selected to complement the natural materials and peaceful atmosphere of the interior. The combination of wood and glass echoes the materials used throughout the space and creates a natural connection between the lighting, architecture and landscape.

Above the dining area, a two-pendant QUU composition combines S and M sized pendants in a soft white and gold colour palette. Although positioned above the table, the warm light gently reaches across the compact interior.

The sculptural simplicity of the QUU lights complements the rich texture of the wooden surfaces without competing with them. Together, the materials, light and architecture create a warm and intimate retreat in the heart of the Finnish wilderness.
