Custom Finnish Lighting in Milla Alftan’s Villa
Milla Alftan is a Finnish interior designer and artist known for creating distinctive, atmospheric and carefully considered interiors. Her villa, surrounded by nature in the Häme region of Finland, provided a beautiful setting for a lighting collaboration with QUU Design.
A personalised QUU lighting composition was designed for the bedroom to complement its calm colour palette, natural timber surfaces and sloped ceiling. The result is a harmonious and distinctive lighting solution that feels like a natural part of the villa’s interior.
A Custom Lighting Installation for the Bedroom
The focal point of the bedroom is a custom arrangement of QUU pendant lights. Suspended at different heights along the sloped ceiling, the lights add rhythm, depth and a sculptural presence to the room.
The free arrangement highlights the architecture of the bedroom and allows light to spread gently throughout the space. Although the installation makes a strong visual statement, its airy composition maintains the room’s peaceful and balanced atmosphere.
Custom colours designed for the interior
Milla selected a combination of timeless colours and custom tones created to complement the bedroom interior. Soft shades of white, grey, brown and muted green blend harmoniously with the timber walls, layered textiles and natural colour palette.
The rhythmic combination of wooden and glass spheres gives each pendant light its own distinctive character. Repeated materials and tones connect the lights and create a cohesive lighting installation.
Pendant lighting for a sloped ceiling
A sloped ceiling offers an opportunity to make lighting an integral part of the architecture. Different cable lengths and individually selected suspension heights allow pendant lights to be positioned in a balanced way, even when the ceiling height varies across the room.
