CUSTOM FINNISH LIGHTING IN MILLA ALFTAN’S VILLA

 

Milla Alftan is a Finnish interior designer and artist known for creating distinctive, atmospheric and carefully considered interiors. Her villa, surrounded by nature in the Häme region of Finland, provided a beautiful setting for a collaboration with QUU Design.

For the bedroom, Milla created her own colour palette and personally selected each QUU pendant to complement the room’s natural timber surfaces, layered textiles and sloped ceiling. The result is a completely individual lighting composition that feels naturally connected to the architecture and atmosphere of the space.

 

A LIGHTING COMPOSITION DESIGNED FOR THE BEDROOM

The focal point of the bedroom is a sculptural arrangement of QUU pendant lights suspended at different heights along the sloped ceiling.

Milla selected the individual pendants and their placement to create a composition that follows the architecture of the room. The varying heights bring rhythm and depth to the space while keeping the overall feeling light, calm and balanced.

 

A COLOUR PALETTE DESIGNED BY MILLA

 

One of the most distinctive elements of the installation is its colour palette. Milla designed each custom shade herself, creating a combination of soft white, grey, brown and muted green specifically for the bedroom interior.

Together with natural wood and recycled glass, the colours reflect the earthy tones of the villa and its surroundings. Although every pendant has its own character, the repeated shades, materials and forms bring the individual lights together as one harmonious composition.

 

PENDANT LIGHTING FOR A SLOPED CEILING

The sloped ceiling became an important part of the lighting design rather than something that needed to be worked around. Different cable lengths and suspension heights allow the pendant lights to follow the architecture naturally across the room.

QUU lights can be personalised through different sizes, colours, materials, compositions and cable lengths, making it possible to create lighting for sloped ceilings, high spaces and other architecturally distinctive interiors.

Each QUU light is designed and handcrafted in Finland in collaboration with skilled local makers, using PEFC-certified ash wood and recycled mouth-blown glass.

In Milla Alftan’s villa, QUU’s modular design became a starting point for something completely personal. Her own colours, carefully selected pendants and distinctive interior style come together in a lighting composition created specifically for the space.
